This is a beautiful long dress by Bill Blass purchased at Neiman Marcus in the 1970's. The bodice has an overlay of lovely textured starbursts and large polka dots made of sheer silk. The body of the dress is in what feels like a lightweight wool crepe blend, and it is lined with a army green/brown silk, but the sleeves are unlined, which allows the circles of silk on the arms to be sheer. The dress has a narrow band of bronze/brown velvet just below the bustline, creating a fixed bow in the back.
We love Bill Blass vintage dresses and know first hand how they last for decades because of the high quality of fabrics and construction. Blass was one of the 50 American designers to form the CDFA, giving a face and voice to the previously invisible designers behind clothing!
